What is a Barre Fitness Class? Barre class will leave the tiny muscles in your core, butt, arms and legs stressed, stretched and strengthened. Barre class is reminiscent of a ballet class, but heavily reworked for the non-ballerina to feel like a full-body sculpting workout.
What To Expect In A Barre Workout Class
Typically, the workout is broken into sections targeting major muscle groups and each group is worked using specific repetitive movements. Often the use of light weights, resistance bands, fitness circles or Pilates equipment is involved.
“Barre is a full body toning workout that builds strength and flexibility from the feet up. The exercises are derived from dance, pilates, and yoga positions and emphasize postural alignment and core engagement.” says Bev McArthur, Barre Specialist, The Workshop Dance Studio. “It focuses on low-impact, high-intensity movements designed to strengthen your body in ways that few other workouts can.”
